STEPPIN STANZAS AT STEPTREK 2017 HOT LIST FOR THE WEEKEND OF OCT 5-8, 2017  SATURDAY Steppin’ out As part of the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association’s 17th annual StepTrek, Steppin Stanzas, a grassroots poetry project celebrating Pittsburgh public steps, will perform “On the Way Up: City Steps, City Immigrants.” The mix of poetry, music, dance and art pays tribute to the early immigrants who built city stairways and those who now care for them as well. Poet and literary activist Paola Corso, who co-founded Steppin Stanzas with poet Andrew Edwards, will read original poems based on vintage photographs of immigrants building city steps and on her Italian immigrant father, and Mr. Edwards will give a multilingual performance. They will be joined by Michael DiLauro, an Emmy-winning director and producer of documentaries; belly dance artist Sahra DeRoy; Koku Kuwonu, a drummer from the African country of Togo; Japanese-American Keiko Maeda; Portugese-American Maria Laranginho, and poet and English as a Second Language instructor Christine Telfer. It takes place at 11 a.m. at South Side Park, Josephine & 21st Sts.
